You will need:
- Yellow salt clay (see simple recipe)
- Green salt clay (see simple recipe)
- A straw (not compulsory)
- Biscuit cutters (not compulsory)
What to do:
- Lightly grease a baking tray and preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
- Get a ball of yellow salt clay (bigger than a golf ball but smaller than a tennis ball).
Roll it gently back and forth with both hands to make a snake shape. Repeat
with a ball of green clay.
- Lie the green snake down next to the yellow snake. Starting at one end, carefully
twist the two snakes together to achieve a candy-stick type effect. This will be the
top bar of of the mobile. Put it on the baking tray.
- Roll out the remaining clay and cut out five shapes using your biscuit cutters or a
blunt knife. Put the shapes onto the baking tray.
- Use the straw to poke a hole through the top of each of the five shapes. Later,
you will put string through these holes to hang up the shapes.
- Use the straw to poke five holes through the twisted bar. Space the holes out
evenly, with one hole at each end of the bar.
- Bake the shapes and bar in the oven for 1-2 hours. When they are hard, remove them
from the oven and allow to cool.
- Cut five lengths of string. Use the string to attach each of the shapes to the
twisted bar (thread one end of the string through the hole in the shape and tie a knot,
then thread the other end of the string through one of the holes in the twisted bar and
tie a knot).
- Cut a piece of string roughly twice the length of the twisted bar. Tie one end of
it through the hole on one end of the bar, then tie the other end through the hole on the
other end of the bar. This piece of string can be used to hang up the
